Mafune
Mafune Gonjo arbetar mycket med krossade glasfragment. Det började när hon flyttade till Sverige 2008 för att studera på Konstfack. Hon kunde varken tala svenska eller engelska och kunde inte beställa material. Det enda hon hittade var krossat glas från soptunnorna så hon började plocka från dem och skapade konstverk med enkla verktyg. Att krossa glas och rekonstruera övergivna glasfragment till något vackert återspeglade hennes egen process att bryta ner sin gamla identitet och återuppbygga den till något starkare.
I den här utställningen visar Mafune Gonjo flera av sina fantastiska glaskonstruktioner som skor gjorda av krossade bilfönster, glasklänningar, en installation med 12 trasiga miniatyrpianon samt andra skulpturala objekt av glas och transparenta material. Idéerna till många av hennes verk kommer från känslor av sorg och smärta, men under skapandeprocessen uppstår ofta ett ljus som övervinner dessa känslor. Dagens värld är full av osäkerhet och skiftar snabbt. Oron finns där men Mafune Gonjo hoppas att genom sina arbeten kunna förmedla ett gnistrande ljus och ett hopp som alltid kan finnas med oss.
Mafune Gonjo är född 1984 I Fukushima i Japan men verksam i Stockholm. Hon är utbildad på Tama Art University i Japan (BFA 2008) och på Konstfack, Keramik och Glas (MFA 2010). Sedan sin examen har hon hunnit med ett flertal separatutställningar, både i Sverige och internationellt. Hennes glaskonst finns representerad på bland annat Nationalmuseum i Stockholm, Museum of American Glass, New Jersey i USA och Toyama Glass Museum i Japan.

matt lambert är en icke-binär, interdisciplinär kollaboratör och medkonspiratör som arbetar för rättvisa, inkludering och reparation. Deras forskning fokuserar på att kartlägga kollaborativa rörelser genom konsthantverk med en utvecklad metod av ”cruising”. lambert är för närvarande doktorand i konstnärlig gestaltning inom bild, form och rum, med inriktning på konsthantverk vid Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design i Sverige. De har en MA in Critical Craft Theory från Warren Wilsson College och en MFA in Metalsmithing från Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Mitt arbete består av kropps- och kroppsrelaterade objekt som genom smyckens kontext och språk, skapar utrymme för betraktaren att ifrågasätta positionalitet, fixering och chimärism som sträcker sig utanför binärt tänkande. Det är i dessa queera [och/eller] liminala utrymmen som dessa interaktioner får sin styrka, som en egen kraft som ännu inte har utforskats fullt ut för sin potential som en terroristisk handling för västerländska och koloniala institutioner. Jag samarbetar ofta med multimediakonstnärer inom ett brett spektrum av discipliner för att omkonfigurera de nuvarande kulturella systemen av queerness och kroppspolitik, samtidigt som jag utmanar hantverkets gränser. Genom att packa upp och analysera bevittnandet av giftiga intimiteter och de inbäddade systemen av förtryck rotade i de geologiska skikten av kultur och mark, är jag intresserad av att hitta sätt att störa och undergräva dessa mekanismer genom en chimär praxis. Att skapa, samarbeta, skriva och kuratera för att skapa system för plattformsbyggande och metoder för att prata ”med” och inte ”vid” när det gäller ”the othered body”

Mafune
Mafune Gonjo works a lot with broken glass fragments. It started when she moved to Sweden in 2008 to study at Konstfack. She could speak neither Swedish nor English and could not order materials. The only thing she found was broken glass from the garbage cans so she started picking from them and creating works of art with simple tools. Breaking glass and reconstructing abandoned glass fragments into something beautiful reflected her own process of breaking down her old identity and rebuilding it into something stronger.
In this exhibition, Mafune Gonjo displays several of her amazing glass constructions such as shoes made from broken car windows, glass dresses, an installation of 12 broken miniature pianos, and other sculptural objects. The ideas for many of her works come from feelings of sadness and pain, but during the creative process a light often emerges that overcomes these feelings. Today’s world is full of uncertainty and is changing rapidly. The worries are there, but Mafune Gonjo hopes that through her works she can convey a sparkling light and a hope that can always be with us.

matt lambert is a non-binary, trans multidisciplinary collaborator and co-conspirator working towards equity, inclusion, and reparation. Their research focuses on mapping collaborative movements with craft through a developed methodology of cruising. lambert is currently a PhD candidate in philosophy in artistic practice in visual, applied and spatial arts, focusing on craft at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Sweden. They hold a MA in Critical Craft Theory from Warren Wilson College and an MFA in Metalsmithing from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
My work presents body and body related objects approached through the vernacular of jewelry to create space for the viewer to question positionality, fixedness, and chimerism that goes beyond binary thinking. It is in the inhabited of these queer [and/or] liminal spaces that these interactions gain their strength as a force that is yet to be fully explored for its potential as a terroristic act to westernized and colonial institutions. I collaborate with multi-media artists of a vast array of disciplines to reconfigure the current cultural systems of queerness and body politic while challenging the boundaries of craft. By unpacking the witnessing of toxic intimacies and the embedded systems of oppression rooted into the geological strata of culture and land, I am interested in ways to disrupt and subvert these mechanisms through a chimerical practice of making, collaborating, writing and curating to create systems for platform building and methodologies to talk with and not at in regards to the othered body.
