MA:XI presents 11 practitioners and their final exam projects which conclude two years of exploration and making on the master’s program in Applied Arts and Design at HDK-Valand, Campus Steneby. Across three specializations; metal art, wood-oriented furniture design and textile-body-space, these creatives display a breadth of materials and techniques, alongside contrasting approaches to the fields of art, craft and design.
The process of making is central in these projects. Hands-on experimentation such as plant-dying wool, tin soldering, and splitting birch wood fuels development and unlocks new questions.
From nothing to something, MA:XI explores 11 different perspectives on how to engage with matter, space and forces in 2023.
